Free Women's Wine & Wellness Event in Lafayette on January 30 - Friday, January 4, 2013

LAFAYETTE- Did you know that heart disease is the number one killer of American women? To create awareness about heart disease prevention, Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) is hosting the 4th Annual Women's Wine & Wellness Event on Wednesday, January 30 from 4:30-6:30 p.m. at the CIS Lafayette clinic located at 2730 Ambassador Caffery Parkway.

The event is free and will feature screenings for ankle brachial index (ABI). An ABI is a simple, painless screening that tests for blood flow in the legs to determine risk for peripheral arterial disease (PAD), which refers to cardiovascular disease in the legs. Screening results will be provided, and CIS cardiologists will be available to answer questions and provide risk assessments. The event will also include hors d'oeuvres, red wine sampling, and door prizes.

These free screenings and presentations are provided to encourage women in Lafayette to learn the risk factors of cardiovascular disease and how to lessen their risk. Adopting a heart-healthy lifestyle and receiving appropriate medical care can help prevent cardiovascular disease. If you experience pain in your legs such as cramping or swelling, you may be at risk for PAD.

To RSVP for the screening, or to learn more, please call CIS at 337-988-1585 or toll free at 1-800-582-2435.
