Recreation & Leisure: One of the major economic influences in Morgan City are the seafood and oil industry. Morgan City was the first to gain national recognition for producing the first offshore oil well in plain sight of land. Each Labor Day weekend, Morgan City holds the nationally known Louisiana Shrimp and Petroleum Festival. The Festival attracts around 150,000 spectators during the four-day event.
Along with the Shrimp and Petroleum Festival, many come to enjoy the variety of restaurants, hotels and retail shops. The area is well known for the many camping, fishing and other various recreational activities offered.
