Points of Attraction
The Eunice Museum
The Eunice Museum is located on 220 South C.C. Duson Drive. The building is the site of the birthplace of Eunice. The conversion of this old depot into a museum was completed in 1984.
The museum has been placed on the National Register of Historic Places. Collections include: Cajun Music, Old Toys, Railroad Items, History of Cajun Mardi Gras, Pioneer Farming, LA Indian Life, History of Newspaper, Caboose, Loom & Spinning Wheel (weaving can be done by interested persons), Video Tapes, Cajun Life, Traveling Exhibits, and Craft Workshops.
The Liberty Center for the Performing Arts
The Liberty Center for the Performing Arts is a 1924 movie house purchased by the city of Eunice and restored to its current form through a community restoration project. The Liberty Center for the Performing Arts is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and has been included in the Great American Movie Theatres Preservation Press Guide published by the Smithsonian.
Cajun Music Hall of Fame and Museum
The Cajun Music Hall of Fame and Museum was created to honor those individuals who contributed to our cultural music and who otherwise may have been forgotten. In 1995, the Louisiana Legislature proclaimed the city of Eunice the official site for the Cajun Music Hall of Fame and Museum. The museum features a variety of Cajun musical instruments as well as records and albums of Cajun sounds from years gone by. It also features a Wall Hall of Fame with photographs and articles about great Cajun musicians.
Jean Lafitte National Historical Park and Reserve
A cooperative agreement between the city of Eunice and the Jean Lafitte National Park, United States Dept. of the Interior, was signed on July 1, 1985. Eunice agreed to work with the National Park Service to create a permanent home for the Jean Lafitte Prairie Acadian Cultural Center. The building is located just behind the Liberty Center For The Performing Arts and features static exhibits, indoor displays in video, slide and case format, "hands-on" craft and musical teaching workshops. This Center is staffed by National Park rangers and operates on a daily basis (7 days a week) 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The Liberty Center is used for all large scale programs.
Recreational Facilities
The great Atchafalaya Basin Wildlife Area is one of the great ecological wonders of the United States. The basin, which abounds in all types of wildlife and extends north from Morgan City to past Lafayette, is a maze of lakes, bayous, ponds and cypress swamps. Popular with anglers from all parts of Louisiana, the basin supports all of the freshwater fish of the South: largemouth bass, spotted bass, white bass, crappie, bream and catfish. Avid birders and photographers may spot over 300 known species of birds. Chicot State Park features nearly 6,000 acres of rolling woodlands surrounded by a 2,000-acre artifical lake. Families can enjoy swimming, fishing, boating, camping, picnicking, hiking and more. The town of Eunice has six tennis courts, 11 ballparks, two swimming pools, two covered pavilions, two playgrounds, three picnic areas with covered tables, a walking trail and lake, a city lake and golf course.
