About Thibodaux
Thibodaux is located along the incredible Bayou Lafourche, surrounded by several historic plantation homes and less than 60 miles from New Orleans. Established in 1801, Thibodaux has a culture that is rich in both French and Spanish heritage. With a population of around 35,000, Thibodaux has a strong community involvement with thousands of citizens attending annual events such as the Thibodaux Firemen's Fair, Thibodeauxville and Mardi Gras.
Education
Lafourche Parish is home to several excellent public and private schools. With more than 15,000 students, Lafourche Parish encompasses a total of 30 public schools and 7 private schools. Thibodaux, located in northern Lafourche Parish, houses a total of 10 public schools and 5 private schools.
Higher Education
The City of Thibodaux is home to an outstanding university and technical college. Within 100 miles of Thibodaux, there are 11 four-year universities and 5 two-year colleges. Nicholls State University is located in the heart of Thibodaux, an area rich in tradition and culture. The 210 acre campus, once part of historic Acadia Plantation, fronts on Bayou Lafourche about 50 miles southwest of New Orleans and 60 miles southeast of Baton Rouge.
Louisiana Technical College, Lafourche Campus is located in Thibodaux and offers programs that are of high demand including courses in computers, clerical work, carpentry and welding. This technical college allows students to receive training in programs that offer a technical certificate, diploma or associate degree.
Healthcare
Thibodaux Regional Medical Center comprises a staff of approximately 800 employees, 112 active staff physicians, 58 courtesy physicians, 18 consulting physicians, 13 emergency medicine physicians, 13 associate physicians and 12 honorary physicians. Thibodaux Regional offers nearly every major medical specialty and has won numerous awards for their exceptional patient satisfaction, hospital quality and patient safety. Other hospitals in the area include Lady of the Sea Hospital, located 45 miles from Thibodaux and St. Anne General Hospital, located 17 miles away from Thibodaux.
Points of Attraction
 Laurel Valley Village is a popular site in Thibodaux consisting of 12,300 acres. Also known as Laurel Valley Village, it is comprised of around 70 buildings and is said to be the largest surviving sugar plantation complex in the United States. Most of the structures are small, Acadian-style cabins with brick chimneys. A general store contains displays of antique tools, farm implements and local arts and crafts.
Thibodaux's carnival is a time for young and old to get out and "Laissez Les Bon Temp Roulez" Cajun style with family oriented celebrations, parades and parties. These community gatherings are a great way for tourists and locals alike to get out and celebrate the Mardi Gras season.
Located on the banks of Bayou Lafourche, the Jean Lafitte National Historic Park and Preserve is Thibodaux's own Federal Park. Beautifully landscaped grounds surround the lovingly restored Percy Lobdell Building that houses a theatre for the performing arts, a library and a museum of local culture and exhibits. At the Thibodaux Playhouse, located in the park, is where local actors showcase their talents for the community by performing original plays and classics.
