 Raceland is located in Lafourche Parish, along the historical Bayou Lafourche. Lafourche Parish is home to the sugar cane, fishing and seafood industries. With a total population of 10,224, Raceland is known for its breathtaking scenery and family oriented atmosphere. From Cajun food and dancing to plantations and swamp tours, the Raceland region adds plenty to Louisiana's rich Cajun culture.
With a total of six schools located in Raceland, students benefit from individual attention and various educational resources. The Raceland educational structure consists of two public elementary schools along with two private elementary schools and one junior high and high school. Central Lafourche High School is located in the heart of Raceland and prides itself on providing a great learning environment for its students, as well as providing opportunities through athletics and extracurricular activities.
Just fourteen miles north of Raceland is Nicholls State University. Nicholls is a selective admissions institution that provides solid academic programs in the fields of art, science, business administration, education, nursing, allied health, culinary and graduate studies. The university's strong general education requirements allow students to enhance their knowledge and exercise strong leadership.
Ochsner St. Anne General Hospital opened its doors in 1967 to the Raceland community. It is a not-for-profit acute care facility with a total of 60 beds, which provides a growing range of high quality, cost effective emergency services, medical services, surgical care, obstetric, skilled nursing, home health care, and behavioral health services. With a service population ranging from pediatrics to adults and the geriatric population, patients are supplied with a skilled medical staff representing multiple medical professions. |
