Charles Thompson, MD Interventional Cardiologist
Dr. Charles Thompson received his undergraduate degree from the University of Southwestern Louisiana in Lafayette. He received his medical education from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans after working 15 years in the medical field as a paramedic in South Louisiana.
Dr. Thompson received his postgraduate medical training in internal medicine at Earl K. Long Medical Center in Baton Rouge. He then completed a Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship at LSU Medical Center in Shreveport where he was also invited to serve an additional year as Chief Cardiovascular Fellow/Interventional Fellow.
He was awarded the 1990 MBB Golden Hour Award and International Award of Excellence for an Aeromedical Crew and the 1987 National EMT Skills Competition Second Place for Advanced Life Support.
Dr. Thompson is a member of the American Medical Association, American College of Cardiology, American College of Physicians and Louisiana State Medical Society.
In 2007, he joined Cardiovascular Institute of the South to serve as a staff interventional cardiologist at the CIS Zachary clinic. In addition to providing general cardiovascular disease care, he has a special interest in syncope and cardiac electrophysiology.
