L. Chris Benjamin, MD
Cardiovascular/Thoracic Surgeon
Dr. L. Christopher Benjamin, a native of Lafayette, Louisiana, earned his Bachelor of Arts from Louisiana Tech University. He received his medical degree from the Medical College of Ohio in 1998. He subsequently completed his general surgery residency at Georgetown University Medical Center in Washington, D.C. and a cardiac transplantation research fellowship at Harvard Medical School at the Massachusetts General Hospital. In 2007, Dr. Benjamin completed his cardio-vascular surgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center.
Before joining CIS in 2008 as a cardiovascular and thoracic surgeon, Dr. Benjamin was employed by CVT Surgical Center in Baton Rouge, Louisiana.
Dr. Benjamin is board eligible for certification with the American Board of Surgery and has received numerous scores of prestigious awards. His awards include Outstanding Resident and Teacher Finalist in 2002 and 2003, American College of Surgeons Outstanding Research Award, first place in the Hufnagel Surgical Research Competition and numerous others.
He is author/co-author of many publications, presentations and abstracts. He was also named the honorary speaker in the outstanding graduates series at Medical College of Ohio and held the position of American College of Surgeons Resident Representative Elect for 2003-2005.
