Dr. Fernando Arzola serves as a staff cardiologist at Cardiovascular Institute of the South in Mamou, La. Previously, Dr. Arzola practiced as a cardiologist at CIS in Opelousas, serving also as Chief of Medicine at Opelousas General Health System from 2008 to 2010. He also served as Medical Director at the CIS Raceland clinic and held the title of Chief of the Department of Medicine at Teche Regional Medical Center in Morgan City.
A native of San Francisco, Dr. Arzola received his undergraduate degree at the University of Puerto Rico and his medical degree at University Central del Caribe. He interned at St. Elizabeth Hospital Medical Center in Youngstown, Ohio and completed his residency in internal medicine and a fellowship in cardiology at University District Hospital of the Puerto Rico Medical Center in San Juan.
Dr. Arzola subsequently served as the director of the non-invasive cardiovascular laboratory and intensive care unit at Fajardo District Hospital in Puerto Rico. He practiced as a staff cardiologist at Cardiovascular Center of Puerto Rico, the Caribbean Puerto Rico Medical Center and Dr. Gubern Hospital. He also practiced as a physician with Eastern Cardiovascular Associates for several years.
Dr. Arzola retired from the U.S. Army Reserve after 10 years of service. He is a member of the Louisiana State Medical Society, the American College of Cardiology, the American Society of Echocardiography and National Lipid Association.
