David E. Allie, MD
Cardiovascular/Thoracic Surgeon

David Allie, M.D. is chief of cardiothoracic and endovascular surgery at Cardiovascular Institute of the South's Lafayette clinic. He is also the president/CEO of the South Louisiana Clinical Research Foundation as well as the CIS Clinical Research Foundation. He is co-director of the CIS "Gloves-On" Peripheral Vascular Disease (PVD) national hands-on training course for physicians and fellows, a program that has trained over 1,000 cardiologists, surgeons and radiologists in the endovascular treatment of PVD.

Dr. Allie is the conference co-chairman of the annual major medical conference, "New Cardiovascular Horizons and Management of the Diabetic Foot & Wound Healing," which since its inaugural event in 1999 has become the 4th largest national cardiovascular conference of its kind.

 

Dr. Allie distinguished himself as being the first in his area of the country to become certified in abdominal aortic aneurysm stent graft exclusions and received the Columbia/HCA's award "CV Surgeon of the Year" in 1999.  He is one of the only cardiothoracic surgeons by training to pioneer the advancement of endovascular and minimally-invasive treatments to fight the ravages of peripheral vascular disease and wound care in his daily crusade, being called by several of his peers "The Cardiovascular Surgeon of the 21st Century."

 

One of the most important accomplishments in his career is his contribution in establishing the Peripheral Vascular Center of Excellence at CIS.

 

Dr. Allie is a well-known scientist/physician with long standing interest in inventing and applying new methods of investigation and treatment of cardiovascular diseases and leads and active research program at CIS. He is one of the premier researchers promoting the concept of treating critical limb ischemia.

 

Dr. Allie is the author and co-author of numerous presentations and publications in his specialty and the author, primary investigator or sub-investigator of several clinical trials testing research protocols of devices and pharmaceuticals. He is also a key faculty member at numerous national and international scientific meetings. He serves on numerous editorial boards for medical journals and participates as a medical advisory board member for over a dozen established medical companies and organizations.
