Michael Couvillon Nurse Practitioner
Mr. Michael Couvillon, a native of Port Allen, Louisiana, is a board certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner. He holds a Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama in Mobile. Mr. Couvillon's undergraduate education included studies at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, a Diploma of Nursing from Charity Hospital School of Nursing in New Orleans, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama.
Mr. Couvillon's prior experience as a registered nurse includes practice in the intensive care units at Doctors Hospital of Opelousas, Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, Lafayette General Medical Center and Terrebonne General Medical Center. He is experienced in addressing the needs of critically ill patients with a special focus on cardiovascular hemodynamic assessment, intervention, and care.
In addition to working in the intensive care unit of Terrebonne General Medical Center, Mr. Couvillon served as a registered nurse in the hospital's cardiac catheterization laboratory, where he participated in the performance of invasive diagnostic and therapeutic cardiovascular procedures in conjunction with CIS. He later became Catheterization Lab Coordinator and began supervising daily activities and compiling data for ongoing investigational treatment modalities.
After accepting a position with CIS as a registered nurse, Mr. Couvillon served as the CIS Hospital Service Coordinator at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center until completing his studies and becoming licensed as a nurse practitioner.
Mr. Couvillon practiced with an internal medicine group in Houma for four years before returning to CIS to assist with procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory. He conducts hospital rounds, provides first call coverage, monitors outpatient and inpatient exercise testing and maintains an outpatient clinic practice.
Since 2004, Mr. Couvillon has practiced primarily at the CIS Thibodaux clinic while also seeing patients at the Morgan City, Galliano, and Houma clinics.
Mr. Couvillon is married to the former Wendy Martinez of Raceland, and they reside in Houma raising their six daughters. He is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners, American College of Nurse Practitioners, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society and the Alpha Theta Chi Collegiate Honor Society.
In addition, Mr. Couvillon serves as Lieutenant Commander Couvillon, Nurse Corps, United States Navy Reserve, and is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
