Michael Couvillon Nurse Practitioner
Mr. Michael Couvillon, a native of Port Allen, Louisiana, is a board certified Acute Care Nurse Practitioner and a board eligible Adult Nurse Practitioner. He holds a Masters of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama in 1998. Mr. Couvillon’s undergraduate education included studies at Louisiana State University, a Diploma of Nursing from Charity Hospital School of Nursing in 1981, and a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from the University of South Alabama in 1996.
Mr. Couvillon's prior experience as a registered nurse includes practice in the Intensive Care Units for Doctors Hospital of Opelousas, Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, Lafayette General Medical Center and Terrebonne General Medical Center. He is experienced in addressing the needs of critically ill patients with a special focus on cardiovascular hemodynamic assessment, intervention, and care.
In addition to working in the intensive care unit of Terrebonne General Medical Center, Mr. Couvillon served as a registered nurse in the medical center’s Cardiac Catheterization Laboratory, where he participated in performing invasive diagnostic and therapeutic cardiovascular procedures in conjunction with CIS. He later became the coordinator of the laboratory where he supervised daily activity and compiled data for ongoing investigational treatment modalities.
After accepting a position with CIS as a registered nurse, Mr. Couvillon served as the CIS Hospital Service Coordinator at Thibodaux Regional Medical Center, remaining in that capacity until completing his studies and becoming licensed as a nurse practitioner.
Rejoining Cardiovascular Institute of the South in 2003 after practicing with an Internal Medicine group in Houma for four years, Mr. Couvillon assists procedures in the cardiac catheterization laboratory as well as conducting hospital rounds, provides first call coverage, monitors outpatient and inpatient exercise testing, and outpatient clinic practice.
Mr. Couvillon is married to the former Wendy Martinez of Raceland, LA, and they reside in Houma raising their six daughters. He is a member of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, American College of Nurse Practitioners, American Association of Critical Care Nurses, Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society and the Alpha Theta Chi Collegiate Honor Society.
In addition, Mr. Couvillon serves as Lieutenant Couvillon, Nurse Corps, United States Navy Reserve, and is a veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom.
Since 2004, Mr. Couvillon has practiced at the CIS Thibodaux clinic.
