Donnie J. Scott Senior Nurse Practitioner
Donnie J. Scott, MSN, ACNP, ANP-C, CCRN, FACCN II, serves as the senior nurse practitioner for Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS). He practices in both the inpatient and outpatient settings for the cardiology practice.
A native of Dulac, Louisiana, Mr. Scott completed his pre-nursing requirements at Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge and earned his Bachelor of Science (BSN) in Nursing from LSU Medical Center in New Orleans. Beginning his nursing career in critical care setting, he acquired certification in critical care nursing with the American Association of Critical Care Nursing and has been subsequently licensed by the Louisiana State Board of Nursing as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse.
Mr. Scott received his Master of Science in Nursing and Acute Care Nurse Practitioner training from the University of South Alabama, College of Nursing in 1997. While attending the University of South Alabama, he received the Spirit of Nursing Outstanding Practitioner Student Award, as well as membership into the prestigious Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nurses. Upon graduation, he successfully completed national certification exams from both the American Nurse Credentialing Center (making him a certified specialist as an acute care nurse practitioner) and the American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (certifying him as an Adult Nurse Practitioner).
Prior to his current position, Mr. Scott was coordinator of the CIS registered nurse program for seven years where he was responsible for developing, coordinating and implementing nursing protocols, as well as training all registered nurses at the various CIS facilities throughout south Louisiana.
Most recently, Mr. Scott became board certified in cardiovascular nursing from the American College of Cardiovascular Nursing. He remains one of the first nurse practitioners in the country to successfully complete and hold this credential. Mr. Scott serves as both a provider and instructor of Advanced Cardiac Life Support.
In addition to his professional experience, Mr. Scott has written several manuscripts related to nursing management of cardiovascular disease. He has been published in nursing journals, and presents locally and nationally on numerous topics in health care. Mr. Scott has been active in professional organizations and has testified before the Louisiana State Board of Nursing on practice issues. He has served as a clinical preceptor and adjunct faculty for local universities.
