J. David Theriot Nurse Practitioner
Mr. David Theriot, a native of Houma, Louisiana, received his Bachelor of Science (BSN) in Nursing at Nicholls State University in Thibodaux, Louisiana, where he was named the Outstanding Student in the Baccalaureate Nursing Program. Mr. Theriot then completed the Adult Acute Care Nurse Practitioner Program at the University of South Alabama in Mobile where he received a Master of Science in Nursing.
Mr. Theriot has worked in the healthcare setting since the age of sixteen in the emergency department, hospital, home health, mental health and private duty settings. As a senior nursing student, he completed a preceptorship in the intensive care unit (ICU) at Terrebonne General Medical Center, and then became a staff nurse in the ICU upon graduation. In January 1991, David joined the staff at CIS as a registered nurse, assisting with daily hospital rounds and patient management. Upon completion of graduate school in December 1998, he continued serving CIS as an advanced practice registered nurse.
Mr. Theriot has been instrumental in developing new roles and services provided by nurse practitioners such as night call, emergency department coverage, physiologic stress testing and clinical research. David was a key factor in the creation of the Oral Anticoagulation Therapy Management Program and the External Counterpulsation Program and continues to serve as team leader for both projects. David served as chairman and inaugural member of the CIS Employee Wellness Council. At the University of South Alabama, Mr. Theriot was elected to the Alpha Theta Chi Collegiate Honor Society and Sigma Theta Tau Honor Society for Nurses. Mr. Theriot is licensed in the state of Louisiana as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN), certified as an acute care nurse practitioner (ACNP) and a critical care registered nurse (CCRN). He is a provider of American Heart Association (AHA) basic and advanced cardiac life support.
Mr. Theriot is a member of the Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners (LANP), American Academy of Nurse Practitioners (AANP), the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society for Nurses and the Knights of Columbus. Mr. Theriot actively participates in continuing education opportunities through forums, conferences, presentations and research.
