Jo Trant Nurse Practitioner
Jo Trant, RN, MSN, CFNP is a Family Nurse Practitioner for the Family Doctor Clinic of Mathews.
A native of Jackson, Mississippi, Ms. Trant moved to south Louisiana in 1984 after receiving her associate degree in nursing in 1982. She lived in and around the New Orleans area for 10 years earning a bachelor’s degree in nursing from Loyola University where she was graduated Magna Cum Laude. She received her master’s degree in nursing from the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, and is board certified by the American Association of Nurse Practitioners.
Ms. Trant has worked in the healthcare industry since 1978, predominantly in critical care, cardiac care and nursing management. As manager of the cardiac/telemetry unit at Tulane University Medical Center, she was charged with authoring and implementing policies and procedures for the interventional cardiology program and the heart transplant program.
Since graduating from the family nurse practitioner program in 1997, Ms. Trant has worked in a variety of settings including pediatrics, occupational medicine and student health services. She has been adjunct staff for Loyola University, New Orleans and Vanderbilt University in Nashville, Tennessee, serving as preceptor for nurse practitioner students.
Ms. Trant has held certifications in critical care and trauma nursing, and was a pediatric advanced life support instructor. She has been a member of several nursing organizations including the Critical Care Nursing Association. As vice president of her nursing honor society at Loyola University, she participated in the process of forming a chapter of Sigma Theta Tau International. She was a charter member and secretary for the Louisiana Transplant Nurses Association. She currently is a member of the Louisiana Association of Nurse Practitioners, the American Association of Nurse Practitioners, and Sigma Theta Tau International Nursing Honor Society.
