NEW IBERIA- Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) is the first in Acadiana to use the XIENCE Skypoint™ Coronary Stent System by Abbott to treat blockages in the coronary arteries. It was first used by CIS interventional cardiologist Dr. Bose Cheeran on December 1 in the cardiac catheterization lab at Iberia Medical Center.
The XIENCE Skypoint™ Stent has improved maximum expansion so that interventional cardiologists can treat a broader range of vessel sizes. It is also designed to improve deliverability for challenging lesions. Overall, this system broadens the treatment options available for patients with coronary blockages.
System features include:
- Larger stent expansion and enhanced stent design
- Slimmer catheter profile with integrated one-piece shaft
- Low crossing forces and excellent pushability
- Improved catheter hub
“This new system helps physicians to treat the increasingly wide range of lesions that we see in patients,” explained Dr. Cheeran. “Our goal remains to bring the most advanced technology to our patients, offering them innovative treatment options to result in the best outcomes possible.”
CIS utilizes this system in the Houma region as well. Click below schedule an appointment with a CIS cardiologist near you.
