Specialist doctor conducts endovenous laser coagulation of the veins of a patient's legs

Varicose Vein Treatment

Bulging, twisted varicose veins can cause moderate to severe discomfort in the legs ranging from itchiness to heaviness and soreness. In some circumstances, these veins may also be a sign of venous insufficiency or inability to properly distribute blood to the heart. Endovenous laser therapy is a cutting-edge treatment that can help to diminish varicose veins and improve blood flow, surgery-free.

For those with painful varicose veins or problems with blood flow, endovenous laser therapy may be the right solution for you!

How It Works

Endovenous laser therapy is conducted in a 30-45 minute procedure. You will first be administered local anesthesia to ease any tension or discomfort. Next, your specialist will insert a small catheter into the affected vein and work the catheter towards the groin area. Once the tube has been appropriately placed, your specialist will send small bursts of laser energy into the vein while steadily moving the catheter back out of the vein.

As heat from this laser passes through the vein, the vein walls will contract and close off, preventing blood from flowing through it. As blood changes course into other veins, the varicose vein will begin to reabsorb into the body.

Results & Side Effects

Endovenous laser therapy has a moderately quick recovery process. After your procedure, we advise you to wear compression stockings to help prevent clotting and promote healthy blood flow. Anti-inflammatory medication and icing the incision area for 15 minutes can help to ease any pain during recovery, though this soreness should subside within five days of your procedure.

Though complications from this treatment are highly uncommon, your physician will monitor your veins to ensure that no clots develop during your recovery. If you notice new or lasting signs of swelling, irritation, or infection, contact your physician right away.

Am I a Candidate?

If you are searching for a quick, minimally invasive procedure with virtually no downtime, endovenous laser therapy can be a fantastic option! Those with painful varicose veins can benefit from this treatment, as well as those who are at risk for vein-related complications like deep vein thrombosis.

If you have questions or concerns about whether or not you are a prime candidate for this treatment, make sure to consult with your vascular specialist!
