CIS is First in the U.S. to Use New PTA Balloon

LAFAYETTE—Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) is one of the first two sites in the United States to use the UltraScore™ Focused Force PTA Balloon to open a blocked artery during angioplasty.  Dr. Amit Amin, interventional cardiologist at CIS, first used the device on March 28 at the office-based catheterization laboratory at CIS at 2730 Ambassador Caffery Parkway.

“This new technology is engineered to allow physicians to treat a stenotic lesion while potentially offering a lesser chance of tears in the inner layer of the artery,” explained Dr. Amit Amin.  “For patients, this can offer a great alternative to a traditional balloon.”

CIS is participating in the Bard® UltraScore Study— a prospective, multi-center, single-arm, real-world study assessing the clinical use of the Bard® UltraScore™ Focused Force PTA balloon for the treatment of stenotic lesions of the superficial femoral artery (SFA), popliteal artery, and infra-popliteal arteries. Dr. Craig Walker, CIS founder, president and medical director, is the principal investigator of the study.
