JENNINGS- Dr. Fernando Ruiz, interventional cardiologist with Cardiovascular Institute of the South in Lafayette, performed the first two interventional procedures at Jennings American Legion Hospital in Jennings since CIS and the hospital began a partnership in November of 2017. The two procedures, performed on Wednesday, January 10, were a right coronary intervention and a left leg peripheral intervention.
The partnership between CIS and Jennings American Legion Hospital has enhanced the level of cardiovascular care available to the community. An interventional procedure is a minimally-invasive, catheter-based procedure that is performed in a catheterization laboratory. With these types of procedures, patients can expect quicker recoveries and less discomfort.
“Our goal is to provide the best cardiac and peripheral interventions in Jennings, without patients having to travel out of town,” said Dr. Fernando Ruiz. “CIS is proud to offer these interventions, such as balloon and stent procedures, locally in Jennings.”
He added, “Jennings American Legion Hospital has an excellent cardiac catheterization laboratory. But above all, it has an outstanding team of local nurses and cardiovascular technologists, all of whom are dedicated and committed to improving cardiovascular care in Jennings.”
