HOUMA — Drs. Richard Abben and Peter Fail of Cardiovascular Institute of the South have been named to the Best Doctors in America® List for 2017-2018, showing their expertise in providing world-class patient care. Only four percent of doctors in America earn this prestigious honor, decided by impartial peer review, in which doctors who excel in their specialties are selected by their peers in the profession.

He is board certified in internal medicine and cardiovascular diseases and is one of only a handful of physicians in the country that has completed subspecialty certification in both clinical cardiac electrophysiology and interventional cardiology. He is a member and fellow in numerous professional societies, including the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Medical Society, the American College of Cardiology, and the American College of Physicians, the American Heart Association, the Society for Cardiac Angiography and Interventions, and the Heart Rhythm Society. He was also nominated as one of New Orleans City Business’ Health Care Heroes of 2013.
Dr. Peter Fail is the Director of the TGMC cardiac catheterization lab and interventional research, and he also serves as CT medical director at CIS. He is heavily involved with a comprehensive Structural Heart Program in Houma which is the only program of its kind in Louisiana to participate in research trials and provide treatments for valve disorders and structural heart defects. He has pioneered the use of multiple new devices including the Evolut R and MitraClip, and he was also the first to perform deployment of a custom, fenestrated endograft in the tri-state area.
Dr. Fail is board certified in internal medicine, cardiovascular disease and interventional cardiology. He is level three certified in the cardiovascular computed tomography (CT) experience program. Dr. Fail is also a fellow of the American College of Cardiology, the American College of Chest Physicians, the American College of Physicians and a member of the American Medical Association.
