Director of Diagnostic Services
Derek Bonvillain serves as Director of Diagnostic Services at Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS).
Bonvillain focuses on supporting the people who deliver diagnostic care while helping CIS continually improve its services, technology, and patient experience. He oversees a broad range of diagnostic services and works closely with physicians, clinical teams, staff, and leadership to identify opportunities for improvement and ensure diagnostic services continue to support the highest standards of cardiovascular care.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Radiologic Sciences from Northwestern State University and holds certifications as a Registered Radiologic Technologist and in Computed Tomography. He has also earned National EKG Certification.
Bonvillain’s career in healthcare spans more than two decades and has taken him from working in hospital radiology to specializing in CT and cardiovascular imaging, eventually leading him into department and organizational leadership.
Before becoming Director of Diagnostic Services, Derek served as CIS’s Rhythm Management Coordinator, where he helped lead the growth and development of the department. During that time, he helped expand cardiac monitoring services, improve patient compliance with device monitoring, and establish home sleep apnea testing throughout CIS. He also played an active role in educating staff and developing processes designed to make care more efficient for both patients and clinical teams.
Throughout his career at CIS, Derek has been recognized for his commitment to leadership and service, including receiving the CIS Leadership Award in 2020 and the CIS All Star Award in 2023. He was also a two-time STAR Award nominee during his time at Lane Regional Medical Center.
