HOUMA/ZACHARY—Dr. Nayan Agarwal, interventional cardiologist at Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS), is the first in the Bayou Region to use the VICI Venous Stent® System for patients with venous disease.
The VICI Venous Stent System™ delivers the radial strength required to maintain a circular opening in the vein to restore flow effectively and ultimately improve clinical outcomes for patients. This self-expanding stent features a distinctive closed-cell design and is designed to be flexible and crush-resistant, thus restoring blood flow from the lower limbs.
Venous disease currently affects nearly 40 percent of the population in the U.S., and it can be caused by conditions such as deep vein thrombosis, Post Thrombotic Syndrome (PTS), and compressive diseases such as May-Thurner syndrome. If left untreated, venous disease can cause pain, swelling, and the formation of ulcers.
“This new stent system provides both clinicians and patients with an alternative treatment option that will provide patients with an increased quality of life,” explained Dr. Agarwal.
