Opelousas, LA – Dr. Siby Ayalloore, interventional cardiologist at Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS), became the first CIS physician to use the OmniaSecure™ defibrillation lead at Opelousas General Health System (OGHS) on August 19. The lead supports conduction system pacing (CSP) by tapping into the heart’s electrical system.
Developed, manufactured, and distributed by Medtronic and approved by the FDA, the OmniaSecure™ defibrillation lead is the first of its kind to support CSP. It is also the smallest-diameter defibrillation lead on the market and features lumenless construction for durability and precise catheter delivery. The lead can be placed in the right ventricle or left bundle branch (LBB) area and connects to an implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) or cardiac resynchronization therapy defibrillator (CRT-D) to treat potentially life-threatening heart rhythms, including ventricular tachyarrhythmias and fibrillation.
“At CIS, we are committed to introducing innovative and cutting-edge technologies to our patients,” said Dr. Ayalloore. “This achievement serves as a profound testament to our unwavering commitment to providing advanced cardiac care to the patients within the rural communities we serve. By bridging the gap in specialized medical services, we ensure that high-quality, life-saving cardiovascular treatments are accessible to those who might otherwise face significant barriers to care, further solidifying our role as a dedicated healthcare partner in the region.”
