HOUMA, LA– Dr. Shane Prejean, interventional cardiologist at Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS) who specializes in treating structural heart and valve disease, has been nationally recognized for being selected to the Cardiovascular Business Forty Under 40 Class of 2026.
The program, presented by Cardiovascular Business, honors 40 emerging leaders under the age of 40 – including clinicians, researchers, and innovators – who are advancing cardiovascular care and shaping the future of the field.
Dr. Prejean was selected for his impact on structural heart care and his critical role in advancing our Structural Heart Program in the Bayou Region. He has performed more than 330 structural heart procedures, many involving high-risk patients. His work exceeds national benchmarks and has expanded access to sophisticated treatment options within the community, reducing the need for patients to travel outside the region for specialized care. Through his participation in numerous clinical trials and his commitment to research, education, and collaboration, Dr. Prejean continues to help bring advanced cardiovascular treatment options to patients in their own community.
“It is an honor to be recognized as one of the Cardiovascular Business Forty Under 40 Class of 2026,” said Dr. Prejean. “I would like to share this recognition with the team of medical professionals at CIS and our partner hospitals, who work together to provide state-of-the-art structural heart care across the Bayou Region. I couldn’t be more proud of the excellent outcomes we achieve and the compassion with which care is delivered. Patients from near and far take comfort in knowing they will be treated like ‘family’ in our program, while receiving the highest quality cardiovascular care available.”
The Structural Heart Program at CIS provides minimally-invasive procedures to treat life-threatening valve disorders and complex structural heart defects, with physicians leading the way in the use of advanced technologies to improve patient outcomes and quality of life.
