LAFAYETTE – Dr. Ankur Lodha, interventional cardiologist at Cardiovascular Institute of the South (CIS), is the first in Lafayette to use the Avail System, a hardware and software platform that allows real-time industry collaboration during procedures, elevating the standard of care being offered at the CIS Office-Based Cath Lab in Lafayette.
The Avail System is a fully integrated, audio/visual hardware and software system that allows physicians to stream HD video and surgical imaging during procedures to connect with remote physicians and medical device industry professionals. This remote medical collaboration technology can be used for training purposes, to share knowledge or expertise about techniques, or to accelerate the adoption of new products and procedures.
The Avail System includes a mobile console that can easily be moved throughout a facility. It features high-definition, pan-tilt functionality with 30x zoom, a large display monitor to share views with the remote user, and plug-ins for procedural imaging sources and other media modalities. Remote physicians or medical device experts can engage in two-way communication with the treating medical team, via the Avail Remote App on an iPad or laptop, and control cameras and imaging views with annotation and other on-screen features, as well as share broadcasts with larger audiences.
“Bringing in this new technology is in line with our mission to provide the most advanced cardiovascular care available,” explained Dr. Lodha. “This is a great tool for the educating and training of physicians, and it is moving us in the right direction to continue to improve the level of care that we provide for our patients.”
